Undocumented Serious Error and cannot update the virus signature database in ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus

Make sure you have the latest version of your ESET product.

Many of the issues you might be experiencing with your ESET product have been resolved in the latest version. We highly recommend that you upgrade to the latest version:

  1. Open ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus. How do I open my ESET product?
     
  2. Press F5 on your keyboard to access Advanced setup.
     
  3. Expand Update and click Settings.
    • 6.x and earlier users: click Update.
  4. Make sure that your Username and Password are entered correctly.
  5. Click Clear next to Clear update cache.

Why is Clear update cache greyed out?

If Clear update cache is greyed out, restart your computer and then attempt to update again (Before you restart, click here to bookmark this article). After your computer has restarted, repeat steps 3-5, Clear should now be active.

  1. Click Setup, click the HTTP Proxy tab, select Do not use proxy server and then click OK.

  2. After your computer has restarted, open ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus. How do I open my ESET product?
     
  3. In the main program window, click UpdateUpdate now. Your ESET product should update automatically from now on. If the issue is not resolved, uninstall and then reinstall your ESET product.
