[KB2280] The error message "Error communicating with kernel" appears

Issue

• You receive the error message "Error communicating with kernel" while using ESET home and small office or business applications for Windows
• Ensure the ESET Service is running
• Uninstall and reinstall your ESET application using the ESET Uninstaller tool

Solution

Ensure the ESET Service is running

1. Press the Windows key + R key, type services.msc into the blank field and click OK.

   

2. In the Services window, right-click the ESET Service and from the context menu, click Properties.

   

3. Verify that the Startup type is set to Automatic and the Service Status is Running, then click Apply → OK.

   

   If you do not see Running next to Service Status

   If you do not see Running next to Service Status, click Start. After the ESET service initializes, click OK.

4. Restart your computer.

5. If the issue is not resolved, uninstall and reinstall your ESET application using the ESET Uninstaller tool.

1. Use the ESET Uninstaller tool to perform a manual uninstallation.

2. Download and install ESET home and small office applications for Windows again or  download and install ESET business applications on Windows.
