[KB2280] The error message "Error communicating with kernel" appears

Issue

  • You receive the error message "Error communicating with kernel"

Solution

Try to open your ESET application manually to resolve this issue

To open your ESET application manually, press the Windows key, type ESET Security into the search field, and click ESET Security. If you are still unable to open your ESET application, or you continue to receive the error message, ensure the ESET Service is running.

Ensure the ESET Service is running

  1. Press the Windows key + R key, type services.msc into the blank field and click OK.

  2. In the Services window, right-click the ESET Service and from the context menu, click Properties.

  3. Verify that the Startup type is set to Automatic and the Service Status is Started, then click Apply → OK.

    If you do not see Started next to Service Status

    If you do not see Started next to Service Status, click Start. After the ESET service initializes, click OK.

  4. Restart your computer. If the issue is not resolved, Uninstall and reinstall your ESET application using the ESET Uninstaller tool.

  1. Use the ESET Uninstaller tool to perform a manual uninstallation.

  2. Download and install ESET home and small office products for Windows again.
