  1. What are the system requirements to run ESET Online Scanner?

  2. How long does it take to run ESET Online Scanner?

    ESET Online Scanner will download the latest module updates for the detection engine to ensure that threat detection is current. It should take no more than a couple of minutes to download on a broadband connection.

  3. Which web browsers are compatible with the ESET Online Scanner?

    ESET Online Scanner is browser independent. 

  4. Do I need administrator privileges when launching ESET Online Scanner under Windows Vista or Windows 7?

    When running ESET Online Scanner, it attempts to switch to administrator privileges. If you are unable to run the ESET Online Scanner as admin, you can click Continue to begin the scan, but it may not be able to remove all threats. 

  5. Do I need internet access (connectivity) to run the ESET Online Scanner?

    Internet access is needed to run download the modules updates for the detection engine. If you attempt to run the ESET Online Scanner without an internet connection, you will receive the "Unsuccessful download of module update" error message. However, ESET Online Scanner has an offline mode, so it can be run without Internet access after the initial module update if you haven't opted to delete program data on closing.

  6. Why does the ESET Online Scanner run slowly on my computer?

    If you have other antivirus, antispyware or anti-malware programs running on your computer, they may intercept the scan being performed by the ESET Online Scanner and hinder performance. You may wish to disable the real-time protection components of your other security software before running the ESET Online Scanner. Remember to re-enable them when you are finished.

  7. What is the difference between the ESET Online Scanner and other ESET security products?

    ESET Online Scanner is a program that can perform periodic scans to check for and remove malware, but it does not provide continuous protection against malware infections. Other ESET security products are advanced, highly-configurable, and offer multiple layers of protection against malware to prevent your computer from becoming infected.

  8. How do I uninstall the ESET Online Scanner components from my computer?

    After every scan,you have the option to delete the ESET Online Scanner program files and components. Select the check box next to Delete application data on closing to automatically uninstall the scanner when you click Submit and close. However, if any files were quarantined, the ESET Online Scanner directories will not be removed. Manual Uninstall: Delete the esetonlinescanner directory from the following location: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\ESET\ESETOnlineScanner\

  9. Does ESET Online Scanner include anti-rootkit technology?

    Yes, ESET Online Scanner includes anti-stealth — ESET's well known anti-rootkit technology also used in other ESET products. To obtain a full feature 30-day trial version of these products, visit our Free Trial Page.

  10. Does ESET Online Scanner use Live Grid technology?

    No, our feedback system consents to collect only data about found threats.

  11. Why are infected files moved to the quarantine after the scan?

    All infiltrations and infected files are moved into the quarantine by default. Files in quarantine no longer represent a threat for your computer because they are reliably isolated from all parts of the operating system. You can choose to either restore selected files or delete the quarantine. 

    Restoring quarantine files 

    Only restore files from quarantine if you are sure that they are not malware or an infected file.

  13. What are the equivalent options in other ESET security products to the ESET Online Scanner?

    ESET Online Scanner performs scans with the following options: /boots, /arch, /sfx, /rtp, /adv-heur, /adware, /suspicious, /unsafe and optionally /unwanted.

  14. Does the ESET Online Scanner work with 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows?

    Yes, ESET Online Scanner works with x64 (AMD64 and EMT64) versions of Microsoft Windows.

  17. How can I view the log file from ESET Online Scanner?

    The ESET Online Scanner saves a log file after it completes a scan. This log file can be reviewed or sent to ESET for further analysis. To save the log file, click save scan log and select the save location. You can also click View scan details to see the information. To view the log after ESET Online Scanner has been closed, make sure Show hidden files and folders must be enabled in File Explorer. New logs are appended to the existing log files when multiple scans are run. The path to the log file is the following: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\log.txt

  18. Can I choose where the scan will be run?
