[KB3263] Exclude Apple Time Machine backups from scanning in ESET security products for macOS

Issue

Solution

The same process applies to Home and Business products for Mac

You can use these instructions for ESET Cyber Security, ESET Endpoint Antivirus for macOS, and ESET Endpoint Security for macOS.

ESET security products for macOS may start scanning the Apple Time Machine when creating backups. This may cause the On-demand scanner to hang or the Time Machine backup to fail.

To resolve this issue, exclude Time Machine backups from scans and exclude Time Machine backups from Real-time Protection.

Exclude Time Machine backups from scans

  1. Connect the drive where your Time Machine backups are saved to on your device.

  2. Open the main program window of ESET Cyber Security.

  3. Click ESET Cyber Security in the macOS menu bar (at the top of the screen) and click Settings.
