[KB7135] Restart Web Server error when reconfiguring SSL

Issue

ESET Endpoint Encryption Client and ESET Endpoint Encryption Client Server are separate products from ESET Full Disk Encryption

The article below applies only to the ESET Endpoint Encryption Client or ESET Endpoint Encryption Server and not ESET Full Disk Encryption.

Visit ESET Full Disk Encryption support to view ESET Full Disk Encryption content.

  • When using the SSL auto-configuration features of the ESET Endpoint Encryption Server (available in server version 2.5.0 or later), you receive the error "Restart Web Server"

Solution

A backup of the existing Apache config and an Apache service restart happen automatically:

The Endpoint Encryption Console Server will automatically backup the existing Apache configuration before modifying it and will also restart the Apache service. If any issues are detected, EEE will attempt to revert any changes it has made and return Apache to a working configuration. If this fails, the Javascript running in the EEE Console browser may never be able to regain access to the web server.

  1. Refresh your browser. Depending on your browser, you may see one of the following certificate messages:

There is a problem with this website's security certificate (Internet Explorer)

  1. If refreshing your browser does not resolve your issue, continue to step 3.

  2. Log in to the console of the ESET Endpoint Encryption Server machine.

  3. Open the Apache Service Monitor and make sure that the Apache service (named DESlockHTTP in the example below) is stopped.

Figure 1-5

  1. Navigate to the folder C:\Program Files\DESlock+ HTTP\conf (or C:\Program Files (x86)\DESlock+ HTTP\conf).

  2. Locate a file similar to "httpd.conf.backup DDMMYYYY HHMMSS" (where DDMMYYY is the date, and HHMMSS the time that the backup was made). Find the most recent version.

  3. Locate a file called httpd.conf and rename this file or make a copy.

  4. Rename the backup file above to httpd.conf.

  5. From the Apache Service Monitor attempt to start the Apache service. Your issue should now be resolved.
