[KB3759] Push uninstall to client workstations using ESET Remote Administrator (6.x)

Issue

  • Perform a push uninstall to password-protected and non-password-protected client(s) using ESET Remote Administrator

Details

The Software Uninstall task is used to uninstall ESET products from clients when they are no longer wanted or needed. If you are uninstalling ERA Agent, ESET products managed by that Agent may retain some settings after the Agent is uninstalled. We recommend that you reset some settings (for example, password protection) to the default settings using a policy before the client device is removed from management. All tasks currently running on the Agent will be abandoned. The Running, Finished or Failed execution status of this task may not be displayed accurately in ERA Web Console depending on replication.

Solution

End of support for version 6.4 and 6.5 of ESET Remote Administrator / MDM

ESET Remote Administrator version 6.5 is currently in Limited Support status and will soon be in Basic Support status. It is expected to reach End of Life status in December 2020.

ESET Remote Administrator version 6.4 is currently in basic support status and is expected to reach End of Life status in December 2019.

The MDM functionality in ESET Remote Administrator version 6 is in Basic Support status as of April 11, 2019. After this date, MDM version 6 will no longer be available for download.

ERA 6.5 User Permissions

This article assumes that your ERA user has the correct access rights and permissions to perform the tasks below.

If you are still using the default Administrator user, or you are unable to perform the tasks below (the option is grayed out), see the following article to create a second administrator user with all access rights (you only need to do this once):

A user must have the following permissions for their home group:

Software Uninstall (under Client Tasks)

A user must have the following permissions for each affected object:

Once these permissions are in place, follow the steps below.
  1. Open ESET Remote Administrator Web Console (ERA Web Console) in your web browser and log in.

  2. Click AdminClient Tasks.

  1. Expand All TasksOperating system, selectSoftware Uninstall and clickNew.

  1. Type a Name for your new task. The Description field is optional.

  1. ExpandSettingsand clickSelect Package to Uninstall.

To uninstall on password-protected clients

If the settings on theclient workstation(s)arepassword-protected, typePASSWORD=into theUninstallation Parametersfield, followed by the password. ClickOK. This option is only available in ESET Remote Administrator version 6.2 and later.If the settings are not password-protected, skip this step.

  1. Select the ESET product you want to uninstall and then clickOK.
