[KB7894] Decryption recovery utility for ESET Endpoint Encryption or ESET Full Disk Encryption

Issue

  • You need to download and run the decryption and recovery utility for ESET Endpoint Encryption (EEE) or ESET Full Disk Encryption (EFDE)

Solution

  1. Download and create the ESET Recovery Media Creator
  2. Create the Recovery Media log file
  3. Obtain recovery log file

I. Download and create the ESET Recovery Media Creator

  1. Insert an empty USB drive into your computer.

  2. Download the ESET Recovery Media Creator.

  3. Run the utility and click Next to continue.

  4. Click Win RE USB 64 bit.

    Architecture of host system

    When creating a Win RE USB, the architecture (x86/x64) of the host system running the utility must match the target system needing recovery.

  5. Select the Destination disk for the recovery media and click Next.

  6. Click Diagnostic Only.

  7. Click Next. Do not specify additional support files.

  8. Click Start.

  10. Allow the utility to complete the creation process.

  11. Click Finish.

  12. Safely eject the USB drive.


II. Create Recovery Media log files

  1. Insert the ESET Recovery USB drive and boot the workstation from the USB.

  2. Create the desired log file.


Display disk information
  1. Select Display Disk Information.

  2. Select the desired disk. In this example, no disk information is shown.

  3. Select Ok to return to the disk selection menu.

  4. Select Cancel or repeat steps two and three for additional disks.

  5. Select Quit.

  6. Click Shutdown to turn the machine off.

  7. Provide the recovery log files to Tech Support for further analysis.



Search disks for metadata
  1. Select Diagnostics.

  2. Select Search disks for meta data.

  3. Click Yes.

  4. Allow the search to complete.

  5. After the metadata search has finished, select Cancel.

Disk R/W test
  1. Select Diagnostics.

Gather EFI Diagnostics
Gather EFI Diagnostics option

EFI USB 32 & 64 must be selected when creating the ESET Recovery Media Creator file. All other options will not include the Gather EFI Diagnostics option. 

  1. Select Diagnostics.

  3. Graphic tests and EFI data gathering will be performed.

  4. Allow the file creation process to complete.

  5. Provide the recovery log files to Tech Support for further analysis.



III. Obtain the recovery log file

  1. After using the ESET Encryption Recovery Media, connect the USB drive to another machine and navigate to the root of the REC_WIN_USB and select logfiles.

  2. Locate the recoverylog_TIME_DATE.txt file and provide this to Technical Support for further investigation.
