[KB3154] After upgrading to Windows 8 with ESET installed, I am unable to connect to the internet

Issue

  • You have no internet connection after upgrading to Windows 8 with ESET Smart Security installed

Safely upgrade to Windows 8 with ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus installed

Solution

Uninstall and reinstall your ESET product

  1. Download the latest version of your ESET product:

Download ESET Smart Security Premium

Download ESET Internet Security

Download ESET NOD32 Antivirus

  1. When prompted, click Save and save the file to your Desktop.
     
  2. Uninstall your existing ESET product:
    1. From the Start screen, press the Windows key  + Z on your keyboard and click All apps.
       
    2. Use the scroll bar to browse to the ESET section of the Apps screen and click Uninstall.
       
    3. Click Next and then click Remove in the Setup window.
       
    4. Select a check box for the reason that you are uninstalling ESET and click Next, and then click Remove to begin uninstallation. Once uninstallation is complete, restart your computer.

       
  3. Reinstall your ESET product:
    1. Navigate to your Desktop or wherever you saved the installer file you downloaded from step 1 and double-click it to open ESET Live Installer.
       
    2. Follow the instructions to install and activate your ESET product, or see one of the following ESET Knowledgebase articles:

Run the ESET Uninstaller and "EpfwWfpRegV5.exe" tool

  1. Restart your computer into Safe Mode with Networking. For instructions on entering Safe Mode, see the following ESET Knowledgebase article:

    Start Windows in Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking.
     
  2. Run the ESET Uninstaller tool by following the instructions here: 

    Uninstall ESET manually using hte ESET uninstaller tool 
     
  3. Click the link below to download the EpfwWfpRegV5 tool, save the file to your desktop.

    EpfwWfpRegV5.exe
     
  4. Open an app search (press the Windows key  + Q on your keyboard) and enter cmd in the search field.
     
  5. Right-click cmd and select Run as administrator.
     
  6. Enter the command below, where  C:usernamedesktop is the directory where your desktop is located (for example C:usersjoesmithdesktop). If you entered the command correctly, the command prompt will change to display the directory you entered.

    CD C:Usersusernamedesktop
  1. Type the command below into the prompt exactly as it is shown here to run the EpfwWfpRegV5 tool:

EpfwWfpRegV5.exe /unreg

  1. Follow the instructions below to reinstall your ESET product.
     

Reinstall your windows ESET product using the offline installer

  1. Download the offline installer (.msi) for your Windows ESET product by clicking one of the download buttons below. If are unsure if your system is 32-bit or 64-bit, click here to determine which installer to download.

  1. Click Save when prompted and save the file to your Desktop.
     
  2. Once the file has downloaded, you may be prompted to click Run to begin the installation process. If the installer does not run automatically, navigate to your Desktop or wherever you saved the file (the filename begins with ess or eav and has the .msi file extension) and double-click it to open.
     
  3. Follow the instructions in the setup Wizard or visit one of the following ESET Knowledgebase articles:
