I receive an installation error message "Error 2878" when installing my Windows ESET product on my Toshiba laptop (5.x)

Issue

You are unable to install ESET products on a recently purchased a Toshiba or eMachines-brand computer and are receiving an installation error message such as one of the following:

Error: 1 (error 1) OR

Error 2878 OR

Installation Error. Please try again, or download and install offline installer.

Your issue is most likely a conflict with software that was pre-installed on the machine for you by the manufacturer. This software is not always removed by uninstalling the previous antivirus, and will need to be uninstalled completely before you can install your ESET product.
