[KB3707] Remove false threat warnings in a web browser

Issue

Solution

In some cases, threat warnings are generated by a specific web page, and will always be displayed when you visit that web page. If your ESET product or the ESET Online Scanner does not detect threats on your system but you continue to receive threat warnings in your web browser, follow the steps below to avoid these warnings in the future:

  1. Close the threat warning.

    • In the top right corner of the browser window, click the X
    • If you cannot close the threat warning, press CTRL + ALT + Delete and open Task Manager. Select the appropriate task name (for example, iexplorer.exe, firefox.exe or chrome.exe) and click End task.
    • If you cannot close the threat warning in Task Manager, restart your computer. If conventional restart methods do not work, press and hold down the power button on your computer for 30 seconds until it shuts down.
  2. Clear your web browser history.

  3. Open the web browser where you were receiving threat warnings and confirm that they no longer appear. If you continue to experience issues, contact ESET technical support.
