[KB3021] Exclude Apple Time Machine backups from scanning in ESET Cybersecurity for Mac (4.x)

Issue

  • Computer scan hangs (slows down) for an extended period of time

  • You receive errors during On-demand scans

Solution

Mount your backup disk

Apple Time Machine requires that you create your backup disk using a removable disk or a secondary hard disk. If your backup.db file exists on a removable disk, that disk needs to be inserted and mounted before you begin.

  1. Open ESET Cybersecurity. How do I open my ESET product?

  2. Click Activate advanced mode, click Setup and then click Antivirus and antispyware.

  3. Click Advanced Antivirus and Antispyware protection setup.

  3. Expand Applications, click TimeMachine.app and then click OK

  4. Click OK again to return to the main program window.

  5. Restart your computer for changes to take effect. You should now be able to run an On-demand scan without experiencing any hangs.
