Issue
- Automatic system startup scan runs slowly or hangs in your ESET home or small office application for Windows
- Adjust Startup Scan priority to improve its performance
Details
By default, your ESET application will scan programs and memory at startup to protect your system from malware that attacks the system memory used in the startup process. If your system startup scan takes unusually long to complete, you may have conflicting programs set to run at startup. The processing of certain temp files, certain compressed files and other proprietary files can cause the scan to hang.
Solution
Adjust Scan priority to improve startup performance
-
Open the main program window of your ESET Windows application.
-
Click Tools → Scheduler.

-
Select the row with parameters below and click Edit.
- the Task column contains System startup file check
- the Triggers column contains User logon Task will not run if the device is running on battery

-
In the Task details window, click Next four times.

-
Select When idle from the Scan priority drop-down menu and click Finish. Your system will now run the startup scan only when the CPU is idle.

-
If you continue to experience slow startup scans, collect logs with ESET Log Collector for Windows and contact ESET Support.
