Before excluding a website

Website exclusions should be used with caution, as they can reduce the overall security of your system. Only an experienced system administrator should configure exclusions, upon instruction from ESET Technical Support.

Best practices:

  • Limit website exclusions to a temporary period.
  • Do not exclude websites where you provide sensitive information (for example, online banking or payment portals).
  • Do not disable real-time file system protection while downloading or running files from excluded websites.
  • If you believe a website is incorrectly blocked, submit a miscategorization report to ESET instead of creating an exclusion.
  1. Open the ESET PROTECT Web Console.

  2. Open policies overview.

    ESET PROTECT

    Click ConfigurationAdvanced setup.

    ESET PROTECT On-Prem

    Click Policies.

  3. Select the policy that is applied to the devices where you want to unblock the website: below Policies, click the respective policy category, click the policy and click Edit.

  4. Click Settings, expand Protections, click Web access protection and click Edit next to Address list below URL list management.

  5. In the Address list dialog box, click List of addresses excluded from content scanEdit.

  6. In the Edit list dialog box, click Add.

  7. In the Add mask dialog box, type or copy/paste the link of the website you want to unblock. To add multiple websites, click Enter multiple values, type or copy/paste the website links and select a separator for multiple values. Click OK.

    Wildcards and other recommendations

Use wildcards (* and ?) to match multiple addresses at once. The asterisk (*) replaces any sequence of characters, including none. The question mark (?) replaces a single character. For example, to block all addresses from nk01.sample.com to nk98.sample.net, type nk??.sample.*

You do not have to include the protocol prefix—if omitted, both versions (http:// and https://) are used.

  8. In the Edit list dialog box, click Save.

  9. In the Address list dialog box, click Save.

  10. Click Finish.
