End of support for version 4 ESET Mail Security and File Security products

ESET Mail Security version 4 and ESET File Security version 4 have reached End of Life status. These products are no longer receiving detection updates to protect against malware. You must upgrade to a more recent version in order to be protected against threats.

 

Solution

If you do not use ESET Remote Administrator to manage your network

Perform these steps on individual client workstations.

New Version Available

ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server version 4.5 is available. For instructions on upgrading, see the following ESET Knowledgebase article:

I. Download ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server

  1. Check your operating system version and have your ESET-issued username and password ready; reference your confirmation email for this information. If you forgot your username or password, visit our Lost License page
     
  2. Request the installer file from your local ESET partner. How can I contact my local ESET partner for support?
     
  3. Remove previously installed antivirus software. It is important that any previously installed antivirus software is uninstalled from your system before installing your ESET product.

II. Install ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server

Upgrading from later versions

If you are upgrading from version 4.2 of ESET Mail Security, it is important to export your configuration/settings and backup your spamcatcher.conf, approvedsenders and blockedsenders files. To do so, use the step-by-step instructions from the following ESET Knowledgebase article:

Error messages

If an error message is displayed during installation and you previously had an ESET security product for Microsoft Exchange Server installed on your computer, verify that you have uninstalled it completely. Then attempt to re-install ESET Mail Security 4 for Microsoft Exchange Server.

If you are running Windows 2008 with User Account Control (UAC) turned on, you may be prompted with additional dialog boxes not shown in the steps below. If prompted, please confirm that you wish to install ESET Mail Security 4.3 for Microsoft Exchange Server, as well as any associated device drivers.

  1. To begin your installation, double-click the ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server installer icon. If you are prompted by Windows to open the file, click Open.
     
  2. The ESET Mail Security window will appear. Click Next to continue.

  3. In the next window, select I accept the terms in the License Agreement and then click Next to continue.

  4. The Installation Mode window will appear. Select Typical and click Next to continue.

    Custom installations

    Selecting Custom install will display additional configuration parameters such as password protection of ESET Mail Security 4 for Microsoft Exchange Server settings. If you select Typical (recommended) the additional configuration parameters can be accessed after installation is complete.

  5. Enter your ESET-issued Username and Password and click Next to continue.

    Activation Key

    Remember to type your activation key exactly as it is written:

    • The hyphens in the activation key are necessary
    • The activation key is twenty characters long
    • All letters in the activation key are uppercase
    • If you are copying and pasting, ensure you do not select an extra blank space

    I forgot my License Key.

  6. In the License manager window, click Add to locate and upload your ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server license (.lic) file. When you are finished, click Next to continue.

  7. In the ThreatSense.Net Early Warning System window, select the Enable ThreatSense.Net Early Warning System option and click Next to continue.

  8. In the Detection of potentially unwanted applications window, select your preferred option (see What is a potentially unwanted application?) and click Next.

  9. In the next window, Ready to Install, click Install to continue.

  10. Once you click Install, you will see the Installing ESET Mail Security window (below) for a few minutes.

  11. When you see the Completing the ESET Mail Security Setup Wizard window, click Finish to complete your installation.
