[KB8267] Upgrade an earlier version of ESET File Security for Microsoft Windows Server to the latest version of ESET Server Security for Microsoft Windows Server

Issue

ESET File Security renaming

ESET File Security was renamed to ESET Server Security in version 8.

  • You want to upgrade your ESET File Security/ESET Server Security to the latest version.
  • ESET PROTECT users can use a software install task to upgrade to ESET Server Security remotely. See our Online Help topic for more information.

Solution

  1. (Optional) Back up your ESET File Security configuration version 8
  2. Upgrade your earlier version of ESET File Security/ESET Server Security to the latest version
Update Microsoft Windows Server before upgrading ESET Server Security (ESET File Security)

Verify all Windows Updates are up-to-date (no pending updates) and that you have no pending restart due to Windows Updates or for any other reason. Upgrades to ESET Server Security with pending Windows Updates or restarts may cause the existing version of ESET Server Security not to be removed correctly. You may also experience problems if you manually remove the old version of ESET Server Security afterward the upgrade.

A restart of your Microsoft Windows Server is required

A server restart will be required after the upgrade of ESET Server Security.

I. (Optional) Back up your ESET File Security 8 configuration

Create a backup for a clean installation of ESET Server Security

For more information about this method, see our Online Help topic.
