Supported versions
Every time you configure a task in ESET PROTECT or ESET PROTECT On-Prem that requires a restart or shutdown of a client device, you can configure the behavior of the endpoint device.
The restart or shutdown feature is currently supported in:
- ESET PROTECT On-Prem version 9.1 and later
- ESET PROTECT version 3.4 and later
- ESET Management Agent version 9.1 and later
- Client devices must be protected with ESET Endpoint Antivirus or ESET Endpoint Security version 9.1 and later
The restart or shutdown feature will be available in other applications in the future.
Updates without restart
Select the Install only when reboot is not needed option to allow updating server security applications without a full system restart, minimizing Windows Server downtime. Updates that do not require a restart are supported from version 12.1 for:
- ESET Server Security for Microsoft Windows Server
- ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server
- ESET Security for Microsoft SharePoint Server

Configure restart or shutdown options
-
Click Tasks → New client task (or in ESET PROTECT On-Prem: Tasks → Add → Client Task).

-
Name the task and select a Task from the drop-down menu. Click Continue.

-
Click Automatically restart device if needed to configure the options to postpone or to cancel the restart/shutdown (see more information below). Then click Finish.
- Postpone: From the drop-down menu, select the maximum amount of time for which the user of the client device can postpone the restart or shutdown.
- Cancel: Select the check box next to Allow user to cancel the action to allow the user of the client device to cancel the restart or shutdown.

-
On the client device, a notification will appear before the forced restart or shutdown. The user may choose either Restart now (or Shut down now) or Remind me later.
Depending on the time remaining before the forced restart or shutdown, the notification is the following color:
- Blue: More than 1 hour
- Yellow: Less than 1 hour
- Red: Less than 10 minutes
