[KB7656] Activate ESET business products in offline environment using ESET PROTECT On-Prem

Issue

  • Activation fails due to no internet connection
  • A Security Admin needs an offline license file (.lf) to activate an ESET product

Solution

Use your ESET PROTECT Hub or ESET Business Account to download an offline license. This license can be used to activate products installed on a computer without an internet connection or that you cannot activate for other reasons.

  1. Create offline license files
  2. Add an offline license file to the client task

I. Create offline license files

  1. Click MoreLicense Management, select the check box next to the desired tier and click Actions Open ESET PROTECT Hub.

    Sync ESET PROTECT Web Console with ESET PROTECT Hub

    Before you can open ESET PROTECT Hub from your ESET PROTECT Web Console, you must sync the Web Console with ESET PROTECT Hub by clicking MoreLicense ManagementAdd Licenses and enter a license key.

  2. Click Licenses, expand the tier, select the license and click Create offline license file.

  3. Select a product from the Solution drop-down menu, type the Name of the file, and select its Quantity (number of seats exported to the license file).

  4. Select the check box next to Allow management with ESET PROTECT, type or paste the ESET PROTECT token and click Create.

    You will see the Offline license file was created notification when it is successful.

  5. Expand the tier, select the license and click Show details.

  6. Click Solutions, click the license and select Show offline license files.

  7. Click the file and click Download. You will see the Selected file was downloaded message when it is successful.

  1. In the ESET PROTECT Web Console Add License window, click Choose File, select the offline license file you just downloaded from ESET PROTECT Hub or ESET Business Account and click Upload → Add Licenses.

You will see the Licenses have been successfully added by license file message when it is complete.

  1. The licenses will be displayed by category in the License Management tab. There may be a delay before the list is updated.

II. Add an offline license file to the client task

  1. Activate your endpoint machines using the offline license file you created in Section I. Choose one of the following options:

  2. Create a client task and use the settings as described in the following steps.

  3. In the Basic section, give your task a Name and optional Description, select Software Install from the Task drop-down menu and click Continue

  4. In the Settings section, select the radio button next to Install by direct package URL, select the offline file created in section I under ESET license.

  5. Select I accept the End User License AgreementAutomatically reboot device if needed and click Continue.

  6. Create the client task and add the trigger.
