[KB8020] Encrypt new removable or fixed disk in ESET Endpoint Encryption

Issue

ESET Endpoint Encryption (EEE) Client and EEE Server are separate products from ESET Full Disk Encryption (EFDE)

The article below applies only to the EEE Client or EEE Server and not EFDE.

Visit What's new in ESET Full Disk Encryption to view EFDE content.

Solution

Support for removable media

Removable (external) hard drives

For data safety, external SATA and eSATA disks that identify as removable are not supported for Full disk encryption (FDE).

Support for fixed media

If EEE identifies the new drive as fixed (it is attached to the motherboard, such as HDD or SSD), there is no option offered for removable encryption modes.

Support for external disks such as Tandberg RDX devices and removable cartridges

RDX drives have multiple connectable options which may cause them to appear as removable or fixed disks. Below is a shortlist of disks that are compatible for encryption:

  • Tandberg Data RDX QuikStor External USB 3.0
  • IBM RDX Removable Hard Disk Cartridge 320GB/Go
