[KB7204] Using ESET Endpoint Encryption Go

Issue

ESET Endpoint Encryption (EEE) Client and EEE Server are separate products from ESET Full Disk Encryption (EFDE)

The article below applies only to the EEE Client or EEE Server and not EFDE.

Visit What's new in ESET Full Disk Encryption to view EFDE content.

  • If ESET Endpoint Encryption (EEE) Go software is active on your removable media device, you can plug it in to any machine without an active EEE installation present for portable data protection.

Solution

Using ESET Endpoint Encryption Go

  1. Once you have configured a USB flash/hard drive for ESET Endpoint Encryption (EEE) Go, plug it and use it on any machine that does not have EEE installed. Depending on the operating system, it may not automatically run the EEE Go software. If the EEE dialog does not appear on the screen, browse to the root the removable media drive and double-click DLPGO.exe to launch the application.

  1. File size limit warning

Depending on the operating system, a file size limit warning might appear. This warning occurs due to file size restrictions on some versions of Windows when accessing web folders—ESET Endpoint Encryption (EEE) Go uses WebDAV technology. For more details, refer to following Microsoft Knowledgebase article, Folder copy error message when downloading a file that is larger than 50,000,000 bytes from a Web folder.

  1. If access to a file over 47.7 Mb is not a requirement on this machine, select the Don't show again check box and then click Ignore.

  1. If access to files over 47.7 Mb is a requirement on this machine, click Change.
Maximum is 4GB

The 4GB limit is the absolute maximum imposed by the Windows WebClient service, and it is not possible to increase the value. Therefore, you will not be able to use EEE Go to access files greater than 4GB.

  1. Click Restart. Access to encrypted folders is not granted if you click Later instead of Restart.

  1. In the Enter Password field, type your password and then click OK

When the password is entered correctly, the "Encrypted drive is now available" message will be displayed. The Encrypted Drive is now available.

If you are viewing Computer or My Computer, it will be displayed as shown below.

Removable media capacity and drive capacity are the same

You might find when you access removable media using ESET Endpoint Encryption (EEE) Go, removable media space is the same size as the local disk.

As stated previously, EEE Go uses the WebDAV protocol in Windows. This causes a discrepancy which reports the disk size of the OS drive and not the removable media storage when the drive is accessed. The reasons for this are described in this Microsoft Knowledgebase article, WebDav mapped drive reports incorrect drive capacity. Unfortunately, this is listed as "by design" by Microsoft, and we have not found a workaround for the behavior.

To show the actual size of the encrypted drive:

    1. Insert the encrypted drive into a machine with EEE installed.

    1. In the Windows notification area/system tray menu, right-click the EEE logo.

  1. Select Removable Media > Removable Media Encryption. The actual disk space of the connected drive is displayed.
