[KB3636] Enable POP3S, IMAPS and/or HTTPS scanning in Windows ESET home products

Issue

  • HTTPS websites are not scanned for malicious content (such as Facebook)
  • Enable POP3S, IMAPS or HTTPS for scanning encrypted content

Solution

Before enabling POP3S, IMAPS and/or HTTPS scanning

Close all web browsers and email clients

  1. Open the main program window of your Windows ESET product.

  2. Press the F5 key to open Advanced setup.
     
  3. Click Web and Email and expand SSL/TLS. Click the slider next to Enable SSL/TLS protocol filtering and select the appropriate mode from the SSL/TLS protocol filtering mode drop-down menu.

Click Email client protection and expand Email Protocols. Verify the slider next to Enable email protection by protocol filtering is selected. In the IMAPS Scanner Setup section, verify the slider next to Enable IMAPS checking is selected and ensure that a value for Ports used by IMAPS protocol is set (default ports for IMAPS are 585 and 993). In the POP3S Scanner Setup section, verify the slider next to Enable POP3S checking is selected and ensure that a value for Ports used by POP3S protocol is set (the default port is 995—contact your internet service provider if you need the port number).

  1. Click Web access protection and expand Web Protocols. In the HTTP Scanner Setup section, verify the slider next to Enable HTTP protocol checking is selected. In the HTTPS Scanner Setup section, verify the slider next to Enable HTTPS checking is selected also. Ensure that a value for Ports used by HTTPS protocol is set (the default value is 443) and then click OK.
