Issue

  • Allow or block a connection with a remote IP address, range of addresses or subnet access through ESET firewall in ESET Windows home and small office applications
  • Block access to a suspicious IP address
  • Fix issues with connecting to or from another computer or device, such as a printer on your network

Solution

Adding custom firewall rules is not recommended

Adding firewall rules is not recommended unless:

  • You are an experienced user
  • You have been advised to do so by ESET technical support
  • You are a technician troubleshooting an issue

This article is part of a series of recommended steps to troubleshoot firewall issues. Start with the article ESET Firewall is blocking a device or application in ESET Windows home and small office products.

  1. Open the main program window of your ESET Windows or small office application.

  2. Press F5 to open Advanced setup.

  3. Click Protections → Network access protection, expand Firewall, and click Edit next to Rules.

  4. Click Add. In the Name field, type a name for the rule. Under Action, select Allow or Block, depending on whether you want to block or allow the IP address.

  5. Expand Direction and select Both

  6. Expand Remote host and, in the IP field, type the IP address, range or subnet that you would like to allow or block. Click OK.

  7. Ensure that built-in (pre-defined) firewall rules are visible in the Rules list.

  8. Scroll to the bottom of the list, select the created rule and click the move-to-top icon.

  9. Click OKOK.
