Permanently disable the Personal firewall in ESET Smart Security (8.x)

Disabling the Personal firewall can expose you to threats

Unless you have been instructed by ESET technical support to disable the Personal firewall entirely, we recommend that you use the steps from the following Knowledgebase article to pause the Personal firewall temporarily:

Set the Personal firewall to only scan application protocols (recommended method)

  1. Open ESET Smart Security. How do I open my ESET product?
  2. Press F5 to access Advanced setup.
  3. Expand Network → Personal firewall and click System integration.
  4. Select Only scan application protocols from the System integration drop-down menu and click OK.

  1. When you are finished testing or troubleshooting, re-enable the Personal firewall.

 

Disable the Personal firewall (until re-enabled by user)

The steps below will disable HTTP, POP3 and IMAP scanning

This represents a potential security threat to your system. Use the following instructions with caution and re-enable the Personal firewall as soon as possible.

  1. Open ESET Smart Security. How do I open my ESET product?
  2. Press F5 key to access Advanced setup.
  3. Expand Network → Personal firewall and click System integration.
  4. Select Personal firewall is completely disabled from the System integration drop-down menu. Click OK to confirm your changes. Your Protection status icon will turn red and ESET Smart Security will notify you that a restart is required. After restarting your system, the Personal firewall will be permanently disabled.

  1. When you are finished testing or troubleshooting, proceed to the next section to re-enable the Personal firewall.

 

Re-enable the Personal firewall

  1. Open ESET Smart Security. How do I open my ESET product?
  2. Press F5 to access the Advanced setup window.
  3. Expand NetworkPersonal firewall and click System integration.
  4. Select All features active from the System integration drop-down menu and then click OK to confirm your changes.

  1. Restart your computer. After restarting, the Personal firewall will be active again.
