[KB8411] Migrate settings from an earlier version of ESET products for macOS to the latest version

Issue

Solution

Migrate settings from version 6 or 7 to version 8

During the upgrade process, settings from ESET Endpoint Antivirus/Security for macOS version 6 are automatically migrated for the non-managed product, starting from ESET Endpoint Antivirus for macOS version 7.2 and later (this includes ESET Endpoint Security for macOS version 8).

After the migration process is finished, ESET Endpoint Security will display a Your settings were transferred to the new version notification on the home screen stating that the settings migration was successful.

Policies in ESET PROTECT On-Prem and ESET PROTECT will not migrate automatically

Not all features present in ESET Endpoint Security version 6 are present in version 8. After the upgrade to version 8, you need to review your existing policies and create new policies based on the features present in version 8. You can find more information on how to create or delete policies in the Policies topic:

If you already upgraded your ESET Endpoint Security from version 6 to version 8, you can still migrate your settings when you upgrade to a later version.

Firewall rules migration

Not all firewall rules from ESET Cyber Security version 6 can be migrated to version 8. After updating, check which rules are visible in the application preferences section Firewall. Any firewall rules that were not migrated need to be created manually.

All settings that are available in version 8 will migrate from version 6, with the following exceptions:

  • Privileges settings (not supported in version 8)
  • Custom proxy server for updates (Custom proxy not supported in version 8)
  • Quarantine content
  • Cleaning levels for scans
  • Target profiles for On-demand scan

Custom scan profiles are migrated and can be managed via ESET PROTECT On-Prem, ESET PROTECT or in application preferences.

Manually migrate your configuration settings from version 6 after the initial upgrade to version 7 or later

After you upgrade your ESET product for macOS from version 6 to version 7, version 7 then imports your version 6 configuration. It only imports feature settings that are implemented in the current version 7 release. Settings that were not imported due to missing features are stored and can be used to import the missing configuration to a later version. Settings not yet implemented are stored here:

/Library/Application Support/ESET/Security/Backup/ConfigurationV6

You can use this file to transfer your configuration from version 6 during the next upgrade of your version 7 product. To transfer the missing configuration:

  1. Before starting the upgrade from earlier version 7 to the latest version, copy the ConfigurationV6 file from /Library/Application Support/ESET/Security/Backup/.

  2. Paste it to the folder /Library/Application Support/ESET/Security/AutoImport/

  3. Run the upgrade. All configurations from version 6 that are present in the version you are upgrading to will be imported. The rest of the configurations will be saved in /Library/Application Support/ESET/Security/Backup/ConfigurationV6, which you can use in subsequent upgrades.
