[KB7554] "Unprotected Wi-Fi" notification in ESET business applications

Issue

• You receive the Unprotected Wi-Fi notification, saying that network communication could be intercepted or manipulated

  

• Use a secure Wi-Fi connection
• Disable Unprotected Wi-Fi notifications for specific networks in ESET applications for Windows
• Disable Unprotected Wi-Fi notifications for specific networks via ESET PROTECT or ESET PROTECT On-Prem

Solution

Use a secure Wi-Fi connection

Secure your Wi-Fi network with password protection using your router (WPA2 or later is recommended). If you are not an administrator, contact your system administrator about securing your network.

Disable Unprotected Wi-Fi notifications for specific networks in ESET applications for Windows

1. Open the main program window of the ESET Windows applications.

2. Press the F5 key to open Advanced setup.

3. Click Protections → Network access protection and click Edit next to Network connection profiles.

   

4. Click Add.

   

5. Type a name for the profile into the Name field (in this example, Unprotected_network), disable the toggle next to Report weak Wi-Fi encryption, and click Add.

   

6. Specify network parameters for the unprotected network so the profile will be automatically assigned to this network (in this example, we specify the SSID). Expand Wi-Fi, type the SSID of your network into the SSID field (in this example, MynetworkSSID), and click OK → OK.

   

7. Click OK → OK to save the new profile and exit Advanced setup. To see network connection profiles assigned to your networks or to assign them manually, see Network connections.

   

Disable Unprotected Wi-Fi notifications for specific networks via ESET PROTECT or ESET PROTECT On-Prem

1. Open the ESET PROTECT Web Console.

2. Create a policy in ESET PROTECT or ESET PROTECT On-Prem or edit an existing policy that is assigned to your devices.

3. In the Settings section, select ESET Endpoint for Windows from the drop-down menu, click Protections → Network access protection, and click Edit next to Network connection profiles.

   

4. Click Add.

   

5. Type a name for the profile into the Name field (in this example, Unprotected_network), disable the toggle next to Report weak Wi-Fi encryption and click Add.

   

6. Specify network parameters for the unprotected network so the profile will be automatically assigned to this network (in this example, we specify the SSID). Expand Wi-Fi, type the SSID of your network into the SSID field (in this example, MynetworkSSID), and click OK.

   

7. Click OK → Save.

   

8. The new network connection profile should be assigned to the specified network on a client device automatically after the policy is applied.
