Before upgrading to ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server version 10.x and later
ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server can only be managed using ESET PROTECT On-Prem 11.1 and later or ESET PROTECT (cloud version). Upgrade to the latest version of ESET PROTECT On-Prem.

Perform a Windows Server Backup on your Microsoft Exchange Server. See the Microsoft Learn article for assistance.

Ensure your ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server activation key is available. If you have lost this information or need to request your subscription information, visit the Lost Subscription page.

If installing ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server on Windows Server 2016 and later, check Microsoft Defender Antivirus compatibility with other security applications. After installation of another antivirus application, Microsoft Defender Antivirus should be automatically set to the passive mode to prevent problems caused by having multiple antivirus applications installed on a machine.
