[KB8580] Deploy ESET Inspect Connector on Windows/macOS/Linux from ESET PROTECT or ESET PROTECT On-Prem

Issue

Solution

ESET Security Services for ESET Inspect On-Prem and ESET Inspect

ESET offers various security service packages and additional support for these applications. Support for ESET Inspect On-Prem and ESET Inspect is limited and managing rules or exclusions are not included without an ESET Security Service package. Contact a sales representative for further assistance.

Prerequisites

Deploy ESET Inspect Connector from ESET PROTECT or ESET PROTECT On-Prem

Troubleshoot the ESET Inspect Connector installation

The ESET Inspect Connector will be visible in the ESET Inspect Web Console immediately after it is activated with the correct policy setting assigned. After a few minutes, you should see the first events sent by connectors.

If you experience any issues, troubleshoot the ESET Inspect Connector.

  1. Create a Software Install task to deploy ESET Inspect Connector. Ensure to use an ESET Inspect Connector installation package.

  2. If needed, add custom installation parameters to the Installation parameters field. You can use the parameters used for command-line installation

    Installation parameters for On-Prem architecture

If you leave the field empty, the installation will proceed without a Certificate Authority, and the ESET Inspect Server address will default to "localhost". You can change these settings later by creating a policy that specifies the ESET Inspect Server address and Certificate Authority.

For instructions on creating a policy in ESET PROTECT On-Prem, see Policies or ask your ESET PROTECT On-Prem administrator to create a policy for you.

  3. Create a trigger to execute the task and select the target devices.

  4. On-Prem architecture: for Linux and macOS, you must create a policy in ESET PROTECT On-Prem to allow ESET Inspect Connector to communicate with ESET Inspect Server:

    1. In the policy details, click Settings and select ESET Inspect Connector. Then, expand Connection and do the following:

      1. In the Server address field, type the ESET Inspect Server IP address.

      2. Next to Certificate Authorities, click EditAdd Open Certificate Authorities. Select the Certificate Authority that was used during ESET Inspect Server installation and click OK. Click Save Save.

Grant ESET Inspect Connector and related components full disk access on macOS

For macOS Big Sur (11) and later, you will receive the notification "Your computer is partially protected from ESET Endpoint Security for macOS. To access all ESET Endpoint Security for macOS functions, you need to allow Full disk access to ESET Endpoint Security for macOS".

To grant the full access, do the following:

  1. Based on your preferred method to grant the full access, do one of the following:

    Grant full disk access manually
    1. Click the Apple menu System Settings (or System Preferences) Privacy & Security.

    2. In the list under Privacy, select Full Disk Access.

    3. Click the plus button to add apps.

    4. Authenticate with your administrator credentials.

    5. Click Applications.

    6. Select ESET Endpoint SecurityESET Management Agent, ESET Inspect Connector and ESET Real-time system protection and click Open.

Grant full disk access remotely using MDM
    1. Download the .plist configuration file.

    2. Deploy the .plist configuration profile file using the MDM server.

  2. Activate the ESET Inspect Connector with an ESET Inspect subscription: create a Product Activation task or contact your ESET PROTECT On-Prem administrator.
