[KB8338] Error "Disk enumeration failed" in ESET Endpoint Encryption or ESET Full Disk Encryption

Issue

  • You receive the "Disk enumeration failed" error in ESET Endpoint Encryption or ESET Full Disk Encryption while decrypting a workstation using a recovery media created with ESET Recovery Media Creator

Solution

Change the BIOS Disk Mode/SATA Mode on the workstation you are decrypting

  1. In the workstation's UEFI/BIOS settings, change the BIOS Disk Mode/SATA Mode from RAID to AHCI.

  2. Attempt to decrypt the workstation with the recovery media again.

  3. If you still cannot decrypt the workstation, use a different recovery media type.

Restore the original BIOS Disk Mode/SATA Mode

After attempting to decrypt the workstation, change the BIOS Disk Mode/SATA Mode to its original setting.

Use a different recovery media type

If you originally created the recovery media using the Win RE USB 64 bit option in ESET Recovery Media Creator, try creating it using the EFI USB 32 & 64 bit option instead.

Disable Secure Boot on the target workstation

To use an EFI USB 32 & 64 bit recovery media to decrypt a workstation, you must disable Secure Boot in the workstation's UEFI/BIOS settings. You can re-enable it after the decryption.

  1. Insert an empty USB drive into your computer.

  2. Download ESET Recovery Media Creator.

  3. Run the utility and click Next.

  4. Click EFI USB 32 & 64 bit.

  5. Finish creating the recovery tool.

  6. Attempt to decrypt the workstation using the new recovery media.

  7. If you still cannot decrypt the workstation, submit the recovery logs to ESET Technical Support.

Submit the recovery logs to ESET Technical Support

Obtain the ESET Recovery Media Creator recovery logs and share them with ESET Technical Support.
