How do I upgrade to Windows 10 with my ESET product installed?

Home users: Upgrade to Windows 10

Upgrading to Windows 10 Fall (Threshold 2) may cause issues with your ESET product!

Upgrading to Windows 10 Fall (Threshold 2), released on November 12th, 2015, can potentially disable your ESET product. Microsoft has changed their rules for detection of compatible applications in this new build, as a result, ESET products compatible with earlier Windows 10 builds may be disabled following your upgrade.

This issue has been acknowledged by Microsoft. Both Microsoft and ESET have made updates to their respective products to ensure that the lowest number of users are affected.

  • If you have already upgraded to Windows 10 Fall (Threshold 2): You will be prompted to upgrade your ESET product to the latest version. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the upgrade process.

To ensure a smooth upgrade to Windows 10:

  1. Click the appropriate link below to download the latest version of your ESET product. When prompted, click Save and save the file to your Desktop.

    ESET Smart Security 9:

  2. Uninstall your existing ESET product.
     
  3. Double-click the file you downloaded in step 1 and follow the instructions from the Setup Wizard to install the latest version of your ESET product.
     
  4. Once you upgrade to the latest version of your ESET product, you are ready to upgrade safely to Windows 10. Visit the official Microsoft Windows 10 homepage for further instructions.

If you have already upgraded to Windows 10:

If you had an incompatible version of ESET installed, you may receive a  notification to install the free update to the latest version.

Windows 10 Education users:

Your previously installed version of ESET cannot be migrated to Windows 10 Education build. We recommend installing the latest version of ESET after upgrading to Windows 10 Education.

Business users: Upgrade to Windows 10

We recommend that you have the latest version of your ESET endpoint solution installed and updated to make sure it is compatible with Windows 10. To preserve your settings and license information, we strongly recommend that you upgrade to the latest version of your ESET product before upgrading to Windows 10.

    1. Users with version 6.1.227.x and later: Click here for instructions to download the latest update.

    2. Users with version 6 products earlier than 6.1.2227.x: Click here for instructions to upgrade to the latest version. You will receive the latest update as part of the upgrade.

Windows 10 Education users:

Upgrade scenarios

  1. I have ESET Endpoint Security / ESET Endpoint Antivirus 6.1.2227.x or later and want to upgrade to Windows 10—what should I do?

    You can upgrade to Windows 10 with your ESET product installed. All settings and license information will be kept.

  2. I have a product version that is not approved for upgrade to Windows 10. I still want to upgrade to Windows 10—what should I do?

    We recommend that you upgrade to the latest version of your ESET product and ensure that you are using the latest virus signature database before upgrading to Windows 10. You will be prompted to upgrade to the latest version of your ESET product after you upgrade to Windows 10.

    Click OK to be redirected to a web page where you can download the latest version of your ESET product. All settings and license information will automatically be transferred. If you experience issues during the upgrade process, contact ESET Customer Care.
