[KB2390] Disable Windows Defender Antivirus in Windows 10

Issue

Before you disable Windows Defender Antivirus

Disabling Windows Defender Antivirus is only recommended if your ESET product is installed on your machine or if advised by ESET Technical Support. It is not recommended to disable Windows Defender Antivirus in Windows 11 and later. For more information, refer to Microsoft Defender Antivirus compatibility with other security products

Solution

  1. Click the Windows  icon → Settings.

  2. Click Update & security.

  3. Select Windows Security Virus & threat protection.

  4. Click Windows Defender Antivirus options and disable Periodic scanning.

  5. Select Virus & threat protectionVirus & threat protection settings → Manage settings.

  6. Disable Real-time protection, Cloud-delivered Protection, and Automatic Sample submission.

  7. Close the Update & Security window.
