[KB6576] Citrix XenApp virtual machines or master image in "read-only" state - Bootexecute registry issue

Issue

  • Unable to make changes to a virtual machine or master image.
  • Issue is caused by cleaner module 1145, which modifies registry keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\BootExecute

  • Due to this change the virtual machine or physical system remains in "read-only" mode.

Solution

The missing string value (PvsVmBoot) must be added in offline mode or in a Windows Recovery Console. See the following Citrix Discussion post for more information on how to resolve this issue.

Cleaner module 1149 update

Cleaner module 1149 does not change registry keys. However, if you have already experienced this issue, a cleaner module update will not resolve it, you must perform the steps in the Citrix Discussion post.
