The keyboard is unresponsive to the FDE Preboot screen. The user cannot type FDE user credentials required to start the system. This issue is identified in HP ProBook 450 G3, HP ProBook 455 G3, HP ProBook 440 G3, and ProDesk 400 G3, in EEE version 4.8.3. The unresponsive keyboard is typically due to implementing the BIOS on the HP machines.

Solution

Update to EEE version 4.8.4 or later

Update to EEE version 4.8.4.

Temporary solution - Use shift keys on your keyboard

External keyboard

Users using an external keyboard must hold down the SHIFT keys when the screen switches from the HP-branded screen just before the EEE bootloader appears.

This temporary solution must be repeated each time a user needs to log in to FDE. When booting the system, version 2.8 should appear in the top-right corner of the screen.

  1. Restart the machine

  2. Press and hold both SHIFT keys during the entire boot process.

  3. When the EEE window opens, release the SHIFT keys and enter the FDE credentials.
