[KB39] 'Error Writing To Disk' Windows message when installing my ESET product

Solution

You may encounter the Windows error message “Error Writing to Disk” when installing your ESET product. This error is usually related to one of the following reasons:

  • Insufficient rights to write to Temp folder
  • Not enough space on disk
  • Missing Temp folder(s)
  • Damaged archive

To resolve the issue:

  1. Verify that the following folders exist:

    C:\Windows\Temp and C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Temp

  2. Verify that the "Temp" and "TMP" folders are listed in the Environmental Variables area:

Windows NT/2000/2003/XP: Click Start, right-click My Computer, and click Properties. Click the Advanced tab and then click Environmental Variables.

Windows Vista and Windows 7: Click Start, right-click Computer, and click Properties. Click Advanced System Settings in the left column. Click the Advanced tab and then click Environmental Variables.

  3. Using Windows Explorer, verify that the folders listed in 'Environmental Variables' actually exist. If so, delete and recreate them (C:\Windows\Temp\ and C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Temp), and then attempt to reinstall ESET NOD32 Antivirus.
