[KB6826] Create offline license files and activate ESET business products offline

Issue

  • Activation fails due to no internet connection
  • A Security administrator needs an offline license file (.lf) to activate an ESET product

Solution

  1. Create offline license files
  2. Insert the offline license file during activation

With ESET Business Account (EBA), you can download offline (version 6.x and later) or legacy (version 5.x and earlier) licenses that can be used to activate products installed on a computer without an internet connection or that cannot be activated for other reasons.


I. Create offline license files

  1. Click MoreLicense Management ActionsAdd Licenses.

  2. Select Offline License File. Copy the License File Token (you will need it later). Click Cancel.

  3. Log in to ESET Business Account or ESET PROTECT Hub. 

  4. Click Licenses. Expand the product license that you want to export and click the ESET product. Click Create offline files.

  5. Type the name of the file in the Name field and type a number in the Unit count field. Select the check box next to Allow management with ESET PROTECT and type or copy/paste the License File Token saved from Step 2 in the ESET PROTECT token field. Click Generate.

  6. Click the product license → Show details.

  7. Click Offline files. Select the new file and click Download

    ESET PROTECT Hub users

    Offline files are available under the Solutions tab in ESET PROTECT Hub. Click Solutions, select the product, and then click Show offline license files. Select the file and click Download.

    If the download option for the offline file is not offered, enable downloading offline files.

    In ESET PROTECT Hub or ESET Business Account, click Settings and click the toggle next to Show the download option for offline license files to enable it.

  8. In the ESET PROTECT Web Console, click MoreLicense Management ActionsAdd License.

  9. Select Offline License File. Click Choose File, select and upload the offline license file downloaded from EPH or EBA. Click Upload → Add Licenses. After the upload is complete, the Licenses have been successfully added by license file message will display. There may be a delay before the list is updated.

  10. The licenses are displayed by category in the License Management tab. Click the expander button next to the Owner's name to see the license and the number of units.


II. Insert the offline license file during activation

To activate endpoint workstations individually, follow the steps how to activate ESET endpoint products.

To activate endpoint workstations from ESET PROTECT On-Prem, follow the steps how to activate ESET business products using ESET PROTECT On-Prem and select the offline license file you created in Section I.

  1. View the instructions how to deploy or upgrade ESET endpoint products using ESET PROTECT On-Prem and use the settings as described in the following steps.

  2. In the Basic section, type a name for your task in the Name field. The Description field is optional.

  3. Click Settings. Select Install by direct package URL and type or copy/paste the URL where the file is hosted on your network share. Select the offline license file that you created in Section I and select the check box next to I accept the End User License Agreement. Select the check box next to Automatically reboot when needed and click Continue.

  4. Complete the steps to deploy or upgrade ESET endpoint products using ESET PROTECT or ESET PROTECT On-Prem (proceed with Step 6 if you have finished Step 3 of Section II of this article) to create the task and add a trigger.
