Issue

Details

You can configure how your ESET product responds to detected threats by adjusting the ThreatSense parameters, which control the level of automation during cleaning.

ESET Windows home and small office products offer the following cleaning levels:

  • Always remedy detection (formerly Strict cleaning)
  • Remedy infection if safe, keep otherwise (formerly Normal cleaning)
  • Remedy infection if safe, ask otherwise (formerly Normal cleaning)
  • Always ask the end-user (formerly No cleaning)

The selected cleaning level determines how your ESET product reacts when an infected file is found—whether it automatically cleans or removes the file, keeps it, or prompts you to make a decision. Read more about cleaning levels.

Solution

Change the default cleaning level in Real-time file system protection

Real-time file system protection scans files when they are opened, created, or run on your computer. Depending on the selected cleaning level, you receive notifications prompting you to confirm, allow, or deny actions when an infected file is found. If you want fewer notifications and a more automated response to threats, select Always remedy detection.

  1. Open the main program window of your ESET Windows home or small office product.

  2. Press the F5 key to open Advanced setup.

  3. Click Real-time file system protection and expand ThreatSense.

  4. From the Cleaning level drop-down menu, select your preferred cleaning level and click OK.

Change the default cleaning level in Web Access Protection

Web access protection blocks access to websites known to contain malicious content and prevents any data from those sites from being downloaded. All other web pages are scanned by the ThreatSense engine as they load. Depending on the selected cleaning level, you receive notifications prompting you to confirm, allow, or deny actions when a threat is detected. If you want fewer notifications and a more automated response to threats, select Always remedy detection.

  1. Open the main program window of your ESET Windows home or small office product.

  2. Press the F5 key to open Advanced setup.

  3. Click Web access protection and expand ThreatSense.

  4. Scroll down to the Cleaning section. From the Cleaning level drop-down menu, select your preferred cleaning level and click OK.
