Block a website using ESET Windows home products

Issue

  • You want to block the majority of websites and domains, only allowing access to the ones you specify
  • You want to block access to a specific website or domain

Block a specific website

You can also block access to all websites except those you specify

  1. Open the main program window of your ESET Windows product.

  2. Press the F5 key to access Advanced setup. 
     
  3. Click Web and Email → Web access protection and expand URL Address Management. Click Edit next to Address list.

  1. Select List of blocked addresses and click Edit.

  1. Click Add, type the web address(es) of the site(s) you want to block and then click OK four times to close the windows and exit Advanced setup.

Wildcards and other recommendations

  • The wildcards * and ? may be used. For example, if you wanted to block all addresses from nk01.sample.com to nk98.sample.net, you would enter: nk??.sample.*

Block all websites except those you specify

  1. Follow the instructions in the section above to add a wildcard (*) to the list of blocked addresses.
     
  2. Select the List of allowed addresses and follow the instructions from steps 4-5 above to add the URLs for websites you want to allow.



Block a specific website (version 8.x and earlier)

You can also block access to all websites except those you specify.

  1. Open ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus. How do I open my ESET product?
     
  2. Press F5 to access Advanced setup.  
     
  3. Expand Web and email → Web access protection, and then click URL address management.
  1. Select List of blocked addresses from the drop-down menu and make sure that the check box next to Allow access only to URL addresses in the list of allowed addresses is deselected.
     
  2. Click Add, enter the web address(es) of the site(s) you want to block and then click OK.

Wildcards and other recommendations

  • The wildcards * and ? may also be used. For example, if you wanted to block all addresses from nk01.sample.com to nk98.sample.net, you would enter: nk??.sample.*

  3. Expand Web and emailWeb access protection and click URL address management.

  4. To block all websites except the ones you specify, select the check box next to Allow access only to URL addresses in the list of allowed addresses.

  5. Select List of allowed addresses from the drop-down menu.

  6. Click Add to individually add the addresses you want to allow users to access. Click OK to close the window. For each website you add, be sure to either include "www." or a wildcard "*" symbol, as in "www.eset.com" or "*eset.com".

  7. Click OK to exit Advanced setup.
