ESET File Security for Microsoft Windows Server has been renamed in version 8.x to ESET Server Security for Microsoft Windows Server

ESET Server Security for Microsoft Windows Server version 9.x is available. We highly recommend that you upgrade to the latest version.

  1. What is ESET Server Security for Microsoft Windows Server?
    ESET Server Security for Microsoft Windows Server is an integrated solution specially designed for the Microsoft Windows Server environment. ESET Server Security for Windows delivers effective and robust protection against various types of malware and provides two types of protection: Antivirus and Antispyware.

    Antivirus and Antispyware protection is one of the basic functions of ESET Server Security for Windows. These protection guards against malicious system attacks by controlling files, email and internet communications. If a threat is detected, the Antivirus module can eliminate it by blocking and then cleaning, deleting or moving it to Quarantine.

  2. What's new in ESET Server Security 9.x?
    ESET Server Security is focused on stability and performance. It addresses common issues reported in the past with endpoint products used on servers and includes new features that ensure easier installation on servers.

    Improved features in version 9.x:

    • eShell (ESET Shell): eShell 2.0 is a command line interface that offers advanced users and administrators more comprehensive options to manage ESET products.

    • Hyper-V scan: This is a new technology that enables scanning of Virtual Machine (VM) disks on Microsoft Hyper-V Server exlink without the need of any "Agent" on the specific VM.

  3. Which versions of Microsoft Windows Server are supported by ESET Server Security for Microsoft Windows Server?
    ESSW supports most editions of Microsoft Windows Server 2008 SP2, 2012, 2016 and 2019 in standalone and clustered environments. In larger networks, you can use ESET PROTECT or ESET Security Management Center to remotely manage ESET Server Security.

    ESET Server Security for Microsoft Windows Server Core is a performance-optimized version of ESET Server Security for Microsoft Windows Server (ESSW). Unlike ESET Server Security for Microsoft Windows Server, ESET Server Security for Microsoft Windows Server Core does not include the graphical user interface.

  6. Can I edit the default automatic exclusions?
    No, automatic exclusions are hard-coded and were created according to Microsoft's recommendations for specific Windows server products.

  7. Which version of ESET Server Security for Microsoft Windows Server should I use?
    You should use the appropriate version for your network to ensure proper functionality.
