[KB255] Why did I receive a warning that a virus was sent from my email address?

Solution

Many malicious programs such as bots, trojans, viruses and worms falsify the real sender's address with a random one selected from the address book of an infected computer. If your name and email are listed in the address book of someone else's infected computer, that person may have unknowingly sent an infected email message using your name. In this scenario, you might receive a message from the new recipient’s antivirus software stating (falsely) that you sent an infected email message.

To verify that your computer is virus-free, ensure that your ESET security product has been updated to the most current version, and perform an in-depth system scan with the On-demand scanner.
