[KB139] How do I exclude certain files or folders from the On-demand scanner? (3.x)

Solution

In some cases, users may wish to exclude certain files or directories from being scanned by the On-demand scanner, for compatibility or performance reasons. See the steps below for details on this process:

  1. Open ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus. How do I open my ESET product?

  2. Click Computer Scan from the main menu.

  3. The On-Demand computer scan window will display. Click Custom scan.

  4. The Custom Scan window appears. Click the + symbol next to the drive letter to expand the contents.

  5. Locate the file or folder you wish to exclude from the scan process and verify that its check box is deselected.

  6. If you would like to exclude specific file types from scanning by the On-demand scanner, click Setup. Click Extensions from the tree structure on the left. Type in the 3-character extension in the Extension field, and click Add (extensions may be added as .DOC or DOC). Click OK.

    NOTE:

ESET Smart Security and ESET NOD32 Antivirus provide a pre-defined list of commonly excluded extensions. To automatically exclude extensions in the pre-defined list, deselect the Scan all files check box.

  7. Click Scan at the bottom of the Custon scan window to start the scanning process. All folders (and files within those folders) that have been deselected will not be included in the On-demand scan.
