You can use ESET Remote Administrator to configure SMTP settings on client workstations so that threat or event notification emails are sent to a designated email address.

You can also configure ESET endpoint settings to send SMTP messages from client workstations.

Configure SMTP threat notifications using server notifications

  1. Open ESET Remote Administrator Web Console (ERA Web Console) in your web browser and log in. How do I open ERA Web Console?

  2. Click Admin → Notifications, select the check boxes next to the notification triggers you want to be notified of, and then click New notification (in this example, Malware outbreak alert (percentage criteria), Malware outbreak alert (count per time criteria), and Network attack alert are selected).

  3. Type a name for this notification in the Name field.

  4. Expand Notification template, select the template you want from the Notification template drop-down menu, and then click Select.

  5. Select the group of computers you want to set this notification up for and click OK.

  6. Expand Configuration and modify the notification settings to your preference.

  7. Expand Distribution, type a subject for the notification into the Subject field, select the check box next to Send email, and then type the email address(es) (to which these notifications will be delivered) into the Email addresses field.

  8. Click Finish.

Configure SMTP threat notifications using a policy

Potential for high volume of notifications

When you use this method, there is the potential for the recipient email address to receive a high volume of notifications should a significant notification trigger occur, such as an outbreak of malware on one's network.

  1. Open ESET Remote Administrator Web Console (ERA Web Console) in your web browser and log in. How do I open ERA Web Console?

  2. Click Admin → Policies, select the policy you want to set up SMTP threat notifications for and then click Policies → Edit.

  3. Expand Settings and click Tools  Email notifications.
  4. Type your server address in the SMTP server field, as well as the username and password needed for authentication (if necessary). 

  5. Type the email address you want notifications to be sent to in the Recipient address field; type the email address you want displayed as sender in the Sender address field.

  6. Select your desired verbosity level from the Minimum verbosity for notifications drop-down menu. Click here for more information about verbosity levels.

  7. In the Message Format section, you can modify the format of the SMTP threat notification emails that are generated in the Format of event messages and Format of threat warning messages fields.

  8. Click Finish to save the policy.

All clients assigned to this policy will now send SMTP threat notifications to the email address you specified in step 5.


Configure an individual ESET endpoint to send SMTP threat notifications

  1. Open ESET Endpoint Security or ESET Endpoint Antivirus. How do I open my ESET product?

  2. Press the F5 key to enter Advanced setup. 

  3. Click Tools → Email notifications

  4. Expand Email notification and click the slider next to Send event notification by email.

  5. Type your server address in the SMTP server field, as well as the username and password needed for authentication (if necessary). . 

  6. Type the email address you want notifications to be sent to in the Recipient address field; type the email address you want displayed as sender in the Sender address field.
