ESET Outlook Plug-in error when starting Microsoft Outlook


  • You receive the following error message when starting Microsoft Outlook:

    The Add-in 'ESET Outlook Plugin' (C:\PROGRA~1\ESET\ESETNO~1\EPLGOU~1.DLL) cannot be loaded and has been disabled by Outlook. If no update is available, please uninstall the Add-in.

  • The error message above may occur on a computer with multiple user profiles after an upgrade, reinstall, or failed uninstall of ESET Smart Security.
  • Disable the Microsoft Outlook Plug-in in your ESET product

Disabling the ESET Outlook Plug-in will remove a layer of protection

When the ESET Outlook Plug-in is disabled, no emails will be scanned by ESET until they are opened into memory. 

Microsoft Outlook 2003

Solution 1:

  1. Click the ToolsOptions and select the Other tab.

  2. Press Advanced settingsAdd-ins Manager and deselect the ESET Outlook add-in.

  3. Click OK to confirm the selection.

Microsoft Outlook 2007

  1. Click ToolsTrustCenter.
  2. Click Add-ins.
  3. From the Manage drop-down menu, select Exchange Client Extension and click Go.
  4. Deselect the check box next to ESET Outlook Add-in.
  5. Click OK to confirm the selection.

Microsoft Outlook 2010

  1. Click File Options.

  2. Click Add-ins.

  3. Select the ESET Outlook Add-in from the list of add-ins and then click Go
  4. Deselect the check box next to ESET Outlook Add-in and confirm by clicking OK.
