Solution

  1. Uninstall other antivirus products
  2. Verify that a Transport Agent Role is installed
  3. Download and install ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server
  4. Verify ESET filtering agents are installed
  5. Initial configuration (recommended)

I. Uninstall other antivirus products

An earlier version of an ESET product installed

If you have an earlier version of the ESET product installed and you experience issues during the uninstalling process, manually uninstall your ESET product using the ESET Uninstaller tool.

  1. Use uninstallers (removal tools) for common Windows antivirus software.

II. Verify that a Transport Agent Role is installed

  1. Click the Windows icon, type Exchange Management Shell and click Exchange Management Shell.

  1. When the Exchange Management Shell is loaded, type get-transportagent and press Enter. Verify that Transport Rule Agent is listed.

III. Download and install ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange

Minimal requirements for ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server

Before you proceed with the install, ensure your computer meets the minimum requirements for installing ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server. View the list of compatible email clients.

  1. Download ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server.

  2. When the download is complete, double-click the installer file to launch the ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server installer.

  3. Select the preferred language from the Product language drop-down menu and click Next.

  4. Select I accept the terms in the License Agreement and click Next.

  5. Verify that Complete is selected and click Next.

  6. Click Browse to change the folders for installation if needed. Click Install.

  7. Wait for the installation to complete and click Finish.

  8. Click Use a purchased License Key.

  1. Type or copy/paste your ESET-issued License Key into the respective field and click Continue. If you do not have your License Key, request your license information.

  2. The dialog window shows Activation was successful. Click Done.

  3. Click Enable to enable Detection of potentially unwanted applications and click Allow (recommended) if you want to participate in the ESET LiveGrid® feedback system.

  4. ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server is now installed.

IV. Verify ESET filtering agents are installed

  1. Click the Windows icon, type Exchange Management Shell and click Exchange Management Shell.

  2. When the Exchange Management Shell is loaded, type get-transportagent and press Enter. Verify that two ESET filtering agents are listed above Transport Rule Agent.

V. Initial configuration (recommended)

Follow the steps below to configure a regular weekly scan:

  1. Open the main program window of your ESET Windows product.

  2. Click Tools → Scheduler.

  1. Click Add task. Type a name for the task in the Task name field (in this example, Weekly scan), select On-demand computer scan from the Task type drop-down menu, and click Next.

  1. Select your preferred interval and click Next.

  1. Select a time and day for the task and click Next.

  1. Select an option for running a skipped task (we recommend As soon as possible) and click Next.

  1. Select the check boxes next to the drives you want to scan and click OK.
