Configure the ESET firewall to allow media streaming to Xbox or PlayStation

Issue

  • You are experiencing an issue with media streaming (music, video, pictures, etc.) from your PC to an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 on your network
  • Check that UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) protocols are allowed by the ESET firewall.

Firewall troubleshooting?

This article is part of a series of recommended steps to troubleshoot firewall issues. Click here to start with step 1.

  1. Open the main program window of your ESET Windows product.

  2. Press the F5 key on your keyboard to access Advanced setup.
     
  3. Click Firewall and expand Advanced → IDS and Adanced Options → Allowed Services.

    Version 10.x: Click Firewall and expand Advanced. Click Edit next to IDS and advanced options.

Version 9.x: Click Personal Firewall and expand Basic. Click Edit next to IDS and advanced options.

  1. Verify that the slider bar is selected next to Allow UPNP for system services in the Trusted zone. Click OK to confirm your changes and then close the main program window. Your media should now stream freely from your PC to your networked gaming console.  

    Version 10.x: Expand Allowed Services and verify that the slider bar is selected to Allow UPNP for system services in the Trusted zone. Click OK to confirm your changes and then close the main program window. Your media should now stream freely from your PC to your networked gaming console. Click to view an image.
