Support throughout product lifecycle

The support of a major release product starts with general availability (GA) and typically goes through these stages:

  1. Full Support
  2. Limited Support
  3. Basic Support

When a new major release product becomes generally available, the previous major release product is switched from Full Support to Limited support. The Limited Support phase lasts until a second successor product becomes generally available. The original product then transitions to the final phase - Basic Support. At the end of the Basic Support stage, the project will reach its End of Life. Please note that this article outlines the standard process. Extended support may be available on case-by-case basis.

Full Support
  • Availability of regular virus signature database updates and module updates
  • Support for new operating systems and new versions of operating systems
  • Confirmed problems and vulnerabilities addressed with patches and Service Releases
  • Technical support is available
Limited Support
  • Availability of regular virus signature database updates and module updates
  • Severe problems, such as when the product or its main functionality is not working or is causing an instability of the system or contains a major vulnerability, addressed with patches and Service Releases
  • Technical support is available but not all bugs will be fixed
  • No support of new versions of operating systems
Basic Support
  • Availability of regular virus signature database updates
  • Availability of module updates is not guaranteed
  • Product is no longer available for download from ESET download servers
  • Technical support is no longer available, no bugs will be fixed
End of Life
  • Regular virus signature database updates may continue but are not guaranteed.
  • No technical support or patches are available for this version. Basic Support may continue but is not guaranteed.
  • No new documentation is created or updated.

Support through ESET cloud service (software-as-a-service) lifecycle:

The support of major release cloud service starts with general availability (GA) and typically goes through these stages:

  1. Full Support
  2. Limited Support
  3. End of Life

When a new major release becomes generally available, the previous major release is automatically transitioned to the final phase – End of Life.

When a new major release becomes generally available, and for any reason, the previous major release version is not terminated, the previous major release is automatically switched from Full Support to Limited Support for a predefined period of time (usually for one year). After the predefined period, the previous release version reaches its End of Life.

Full Support
  • Cloud service is constantly improved
  • Confirmed problems and vulnerabilities are addressed with Hotfixes and Service Releases
  • Enrollment of new customers/users is available
  • Technical support is available, documentation is updated
Limited Support
  • Cloud service is not actively improved
  • Functionalities and accessibility might be limited
  • Enrollment of new customers/users might be limited
  • Technical support is limited, bugs are under consideration, update of documentation might be limited
End of Life
  • Cloud service improvements are terminated

ESET End of Life policy valida dal 1 Luglio 2020

Lo scopo di questo documento è quello di definire le politiche di Eset in termini di End of Life (EOL) e di supporto al prodotto, così come le politiche adottate per il supporto dei vari sistemi operativi.Il documento ha lo scopo di essere un punto di riferimento per gli utenti aziendali ESET, per i quali politiche EOL chiare e pianificabili possono contribuire in modo significativo a un'efficace gestione della sicurezza IT. Riteniamo che questo documento possa contribuire a mantenere aggiornate le politiche di sicurezza delle organizzazioni, prevenendo eventuali interruzioni della continuità operativa.Il presente documento relativo alla End of Life è fondato sulle best practice del settore e sugli standard comunemente riconosciuti. Le politiche sono applicate a tutti i prodotti e le relative versioni esistenti, nel rispetto degli impegni già presi con i nostri clienti. Abbiamo definito categorie di prodotti e politiche di supporto personalizzate per ognuna; è inoltre possibile trovare informazioni sul funzionamento del versioning e spiegazioni sulle fasi del ciclo di vita del prodotto.Siamo pienamente consapevoli che qualsiasi cambiamento può essere doloroso, soprattutto in ambiente aziendale. Pertanto, dal momento in cui la nostra nuova politica entrerà in pieno vigore, sarà previsto un periodo di transizione di un anno. Durante questo periodo, le versioni di prodotto che saranno passate da basic/limited support a EOL in seguito alla nuova politica, riceveranno ancora aggiornamenti del modulo (inclusi gli aggiornamenti delle firme antivirali). Il supporto di base, infatti, garantisce solo l'aggiornamento delle virus signatures. Continueremo inoltre ad inviare anche gli aggiornamenti dei moduli alle versioni di prodotto giunte a fine vita per tutta la durata del periodo di transizione. Anche le versioni di prodotto che naturalmente passeranno alla fase EOL durante questo periodo godranno dello stesso trattamento.

ESET segue gli standard industriali per la numerazione delle versioni dei prodotti. Di seguito un esempio su come interpretare i singoli numeri che si trovano nella versione del prodotto:

  • Major version - Il passaggio a una versione successiva prevede solitamente una revisione importante del prodotto, un cambiamento nell'architettura o il termine del supporto a una delle versioni precedenti del sistema operativo.
  • Minor version - L’incremento di questo numero comporta piccole correzioni di bug e leggere modifiche di funzionalità rispetto alla versione precedente.
  • Build Number/Patch level (Hotfix) - Correzione automatica di bug critici e vulnerabilità. Da un punto di vista funzionale non cambia assolutamente nulla.

Ciclo di vita del prodotto

Naturalmente, ogni versione si inserisce in una fase specifica del ciclo di vita del prodotto. Al fine di definire una policy di EOL completa abbiamo deciso di classificarli nei seguenti gruppi:

  • Prodotti in active development

    Questi prodotti sono nella fase iniziale o intermedia del ciclo di vita e l’obiettivo di ESET è di svilupparli e commercializzarli nei prossimi anni. I prodotti in active development vengono regolarmente sottoposti alla procedura di fine versione per le versioni precedenti (ogni volta che viene rilasciata una nuova versione major). È attiva una procedura per consentire un prolungamento del limited support per alcune versioni di prodotto - per maggiori dettagli contattare il proprio account ESET.

  • Prodotti con supporto continuo

    Questi prodotti sono in uno stato maturo del ciclo di vita ed ESET si limita a mantenerli. Non è previsto nessuno sviluppo di nuove funzionalità. I prodotti/servizi in mantenimento si trovano generalmente in stato di limited support esteso.

  • Prodotti in fase di dismissione

    Questi prodotti non vengono sviluppati né migliorati in alcun modo da tempo e non possiedono più alcun valore commerciale o strategico. Questi prodotti sono sottoposti a una procedura interna di fine prodotto, che ha come risultato la EOL definitiva.

Livelli di supporto

Questi sono i livelli di supporto generali per i prodotti e i servizi ESET. Per l'applicazione ai singoli prodotti e relative versioni, leggere le sezioni dedicate di questo documento.

  • Full Support

    Comunemente inteso in tutto il settore come il massimo impegno nel fornire ai clienti una piena funzionalità e la correzioni di tutti i bug. Viene inoltre offerta un'ampia assistenza ai nostri clienti. Tutte le future release del sistema operativo saranno supportate a condizione che non vi sia un importante impedimento esterno che non possa essere superato nonostante un ragionevole sforzo.

  • Limited Support

    Il campo di applicazione in questo caso è relativamente ristretto, prestare quindi attenzione al tipo di supporto a cui si ha diritto in questa fase per ogni categoria di prodotto.

  • End of Life

    In questa fase del ciclo di vita non offriamo alcun supporto o assistenza e di fatto non viene garantita la funzionalità del prodotto. Viene offerta massima assistenza al cliente nel guidarlo nel passaggio all’ultima versione del prodotto equivalente.
