[KB8227] Troubleshoot issues caused by the ESET Dynamic Threat Defense or ESET Enterprise Inspector renaming

  • You have reports, dynamic groups, notifications or other types of rules that filter for ESET Dynamic Threat Defense or ESET Enterprise Inspector
  • Your reports, dynamic groups and notifications or other types of rules are no longer running in ESET PROTECT/ESET PROTECT On-Prem

ESET Dynamic Threat Defense (EDTD) and ESET Enterprise Inspector (EEI) have been renamed. Existing templates and rules that filter for EDTD and EEI by name must be updated.

  • ESET Dynamic Threat Defense has been renamed to ESET LiveGuard Advanced. Edit templates that previously contained Dynamic Threat Defense to ESET LiveGuard.
  • ESET Enterprise Inspector has been renamed to ESET Inspect. Edit templates that previously contained ESET Enterprise Inspector to ESET Inspect

Solution

Update the names of templates and rules to ESET LiveGuard or ESET Inspect

Required user permissions

This article assumes that you have the appropriate access rights and permissions to perform the tasks below.

If you use the default Administrator user or are unable to perform the tasks below (the option is unavailable), create a second administrator user with all access rights.

Templates and rules

Do not update individual rules. Users must update templates. Updated templates will automatically update associated rules.

Steps to update EDTD/EEI are the same. Users should type the renamed version of the specific product.

ESET recommends verifying the following templates/rules that filter for ESET Dynamic Threat Defense (EDTD)/ESET Enterprise Inspector (EEI):

The example below provides steps for updating the Detection name in a Dynamic Group Template. Users will need to update all templates in all sections that filter for EDTD/EEI by name.

  1. Open ESET PROTECT On-Prem in your web browser and log in.
    or
    Open ESET PROTECT in your web browser and log in.

  2. Click More.

  3. Click Dynamic Group Templates.

  4. Select the template and click the menu icon to the left of the group name. Click Edit.

  5. If needed, update the name and description of the Dynamic Group Template.

  6. Click Expression.

  7. Click the Operation drop-down menu and select OR (At least one condition has to be true).

  8. Click Add Rule.

  9. Select the item that must be updated. For example, License name, Scanner name, etc. The example below shows Detection name. Click the arrow next to Active detections, select Detection name. Click OK.

  10. In the drop-down menu next to Active detections . Detection name, select contains. Users that have EDTD, type ESET LiveGuard. For users that have EEI, type ESET Inspect. Click Finish.

    Example

    Detection name is one example of many items that users may need to update. Users must update all items that filter for Dynamic Threat Defense or ESET Enterprise Inspector. (For example, License name, Scanner name, etc.)

  11. Repeat for any templates that filter for EDTD/EEI.
Update time

Changes made to templates/rules will not reach agents immediately. Update timing is based on preexisting rules in ESET PROTECT/ESET PROTECT On-Prem and network settings.
