[KB3263] Exclude Apple Time Machine backups from scanning in ESET Cyber Security or ESET Cyber Security Pro

Issue

  • Computer scan hangs (slows down) for an extended period of time 

Details

Scanning of Apple Time Machine backup files can cause the On-demand scanner to hang.

Solution

  1. Connect the hard drive or USB flash drive where your Time Machine backups are saved to your computer.

  2. Open ESET Cyber Security or ESET Cyber Security Pro. How do I open my ESET product?

  3. Click SetupEnter application preferences.

  1. Click General.

  2. Click Setup.

  1. Click the + icon.

  1. Expand the drive where you save Time Machine backups, click Backups.backupdb and then click OK.

  1. Click the + icon.

  1. Navigate to System, expand Applications, and click Time Machine and click OK

    1. Click OK again to return to the main program window.

  1. Restart your computer for changes to take effect. You should now be able to run a Computer scan without experiencing any hangs.
