[KB2501] What is the ESET Authentication Server and how do I install and configure it?

The ESET Authentication server provides your network with an additional layer of protection by requiring remote users to authenticate through a server you configure before accessing the network. 

Install ESET Authentication Server

Windows Vista users

If you are running Windows Vista with User Account Control (UAC) turned on, you may be prompted with additional dialog boxes not shown in the steps below. If prompted, confirm that you want to install ESET Authentication Server, as well as any associated device drivers.

  1. Download the ESET Authentication Server. Click Save if prompted and save the file to the Desktop. Click Run.

  2. To begin your installation, double-click the ESET Authentication Server installer icon. If you are prompted by Windows to open the file, click Open.
     
  3. The ESET Authentication Server Setup window will appear. Click Next.

  4. Click I accept the terms in the License Agreement to accept the ESET Authentication Server License agreement and click Next.

  5. The Select Installation Folder window will appear. Click Next.

  6. In the Ready to Install window, click Install.

  7. After you click Install, you will see the Installing ESET Authentication Server screen (below) for a few minutes.

  8. When you see the Completing the ESET Authentication Server Setup Wizard window, click Finish to complete your installation.

Configure ESET Authentication Server

  1. Open the ESET Authentication Server by clicking Start → All Programs → ESET→ ESET Authentication Server.
     
  2. Type a name in Zone name: and verify that Port to listen on: is set to 80. Click Browse....

  3. Navigate to C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET Authentication Server. Type the zone name into the File name field and click Open.
     
  4. Click Generate to create your ESET Authentication Server keys.

  5. Click Start to begin the ESET Authentication Server service and click OK.

  6. Open the Windows Defender Firewall window by clicking Start → Control Panel → Windows Defender Firewall→ Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall.

Windows 8.x and earlier: Open the Windows Firewall window by clicking Start → Control Panel → Windows Firewall→ Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall. Click here to view a screenshot.

    7. Click Change SettingsAllow another app... → Browse..., navigate to C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET Authentication Server\EHttpSrv.exe and then click Open → Add.

Windows 8.x and earlier: Click Allow another program... → Browse..., navigate to C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET Authentication Server\EHttpSrv.exe and then click Open → Add. Click here to view a screenshot.

    8. Make sure the check box next to ESET HTTP Server Service is selected and click OK.
