[KB2399] Using Windows System Restore to resolve issues with Windows, ESET corruption or malware.

Solution

Using Windows System Restore to revert the operating system to a previous state can occasionally resolve issues involving ESET installation, corruption and malware infiltrations. All programs installed after the restore point date will be lost, so please warn customers and recommend backing up important files.

In some cases, malware can specifically target the System Restore point and wait for the user to run the program at a system level to gain access to the computer. To avoid unnecessary risks, please investigate the issue thoroughly before using System Restore.

  1. Restart the computer in Safe Mode.
  2. Follow the Windows XP System Restore directions found on Microsoft's support page.
