Exclude an application by name from scanning in ESET Windows home products


  • You need to exclude an application from scanning using the application name


  1. Open the main program window of your ESET Windows product.
Identify the application
  • Before proceeding, you will need to identify the name of the application that you are excluding. The application will have been identified as a threat by your ESET product.
  • For example, a Potentially unwanted application (PUA); Therefore, the application name will be referred to as the threat name in this article.
  1. To find the exact threat name, find the log file that contains the threat you want to exclude and copy the threat name from the Detection column.

  1. Press the F5 key to access Advanced setup.

  2. Click Detection Engine  Edit next to Detection exclusions.

    Version 12.x and earlier: Click Detection Engine  Edit next to Files and folders to be excluded from scanning. Click here to view a screenshot.

  1. Click Add.

  2. Add the Detection by selecting the Path, or by entering the Hash or Detection name. Click here for more information on the different exclusion types. 

    Version 12.x and earlier: Next to Type, select Exclude threat from the drop-down menu. In the Threat name field, type @Name= and paste the threat name copied from the log file in step 2. In the Path mask field, type * and click OK. Click here to view a screenshot.

  1. Click OK → OKOK to save your changes and exit Advanced setup. The application is now excluded from scanning.

Version 12.x and earlier: Click Save → OK to save your changes and exit Advanced setup.
