[CA6831] New product feature: More frequent updates to improve detection

ESET Customer Advisory 2018-0007
May 24, 2018
Severity: Information

A new feature to improve detection and speed of response to emerging threats has been introduced in ESET NOD32 Antivirus / ESET Internet Security / ESET Smart Security Premium version 11.1 and above, which is already available for general public. Later, this feature will be included in ESET Endpoint Security and ESET Endpoint Antivirus, currently planned for version 7 (currently in BETA).

Customer Advisory

The frequent updates feature is aimed at improving the protection ESET products provide against emerging, quickly-spreading threats. Frequent updates enable us to deliver critical detections to our users via a newly-established priority channel.

ESET products with the frequent updates feature implemented query ESET’s servers for new updates in short intervals to minimize the exposure window. This way we are able to update the detection engine for all scanners, including the behavior based real-time scanner and our unique Advanced Memory Scanner, which has proven to be very effective against heavily obfuscated and/or encrypted malware.

Thanks to not utilizing the full update framework, frequent updates are both quick and resource-light, consisting just of hundreds of bytes per one update.

As this feature significantly improves our response time to emerging threats, specifically when coupled with ESET LiveGrid reputation system, we recommend to our users to upgrade to the latest available product versions in order to take advantage of our complete protection stack.
