Temporarily disable my Windows ESET home product

Issue

  • This article applies to the following products:
    • ESET NOD32 Antivirus
    • ESET Internet Security
    • ESET Smart Security
    • ESET Smart Security Premium
  • You need to troubleshoot or install third-party software that requires you to temporarily disable your ESET antivirus software

Do not forget to re-enable protection

Remember to re-enable Antivirus and antispyware protection after you are finished troubleshooting or installing other software applications by opening the main program window and clicking Enable Antivirus and antispyware protection​ (Antivirus and antispyware protection will be turned on automatically if your computer is restarted).

  1. Open your Windows ESET product. How do I open my ESET product?.
     
  2. Click Setup → Computer protection.

  3. Click Pause Antivirus and antispyware protection.

  4. Select the length of time you would like to disable protection from the drop-down menu and click Apply.

Do not forget to re-enable protection

Remember to re-enable Antivirus and antispyware protection after you are finished troubleshooting or installing other software applications by opening the main program window and clicking Enable Antivirus and antispyware protection (Antivirus and antispyware protection will be turned on automatically if your computer is restarted).

  1. Open ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus. How do I open my ESET product?

  2. Click the Protection status icon Temporarily disable protection. Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm this action.

  3. In the Temporarily disable protection window, select the length of time you would like to disable protection from the Time interval drop-down menu. Click OK to continue.

Don't forget to re-enable protection

Remember to re-enable Antivirus and antispyware protection after you are finished troubleshooting or installing other software applications by clicking the Protection status iconEnable all antivirus and antispyware protection modules (Antivirus and antispyware protection will be turned on automatically if your computer is restarted).
